Bonuses in cities usually go in two categories: population + MP, population + resource extraction, resource extraction + MP. But there are historic towns that give three bonuses at once.

Capturing a historic city requires a city ownership point, declaring war to the city’s owners (unless war is not required) and lasts 24 hours.
If the city belongs to noCommander, then when you first visit you can meet an army of defensive mobs. Usually it is 5 units, but a player who is not prepared for such a meeting may be difficult to deal with them the first time. Mobs are not responding.
It’s impossible to establish a historic city. The historic city can not be taken in the contour and renamed. Also, the historic city is not subject to transfer.
