Two types of maps are available in the valley menu: the actual map of the valley and the political map of the influence of factions. Switching between them is done by scrolling the mouse (zooming out switches the map of the valley to the political one and vice versa) or by clicking the Переключение режима.jpg
You can get acquainted with the valley map in more detail here

So, if you switch the map of the valley to a political map, you can see how the maps are painted in different colors. Some areas are evenly colored and have clear boundaries - these are regions. Регионы.jpg
A region is an administrative unit for dividing a map.
Each region has fortress, the possession of which causes all the activities of the region.
The owner of the fortress can tax the population or improve development and trade in their region. The faction that owns the fortress, paints the region with its colors and gives protection to its cities and locations from seizures without declaring war.

There is also a server where there are no clear regions, and there are no fortresses, a political map displays the colors of the nations inhabiting it.

A player who enters a game or erects buildings in a valley (forts, cities, mercenary camps) paints a political map in the colors of his nation with several cells around.

When a nation changes (if a player enters the Order of another nation, or becomes a vassal of a player of another nation), the color changes as a region (if there are regions) or player’s living areas in the colors of a new nation.
